I had the pleasure to
babysit two lil guys last month that were a handful with loads of smiles! The downer to babysitting was the getting there part. I had to travel on the highway to
get there, which normally is not bad, but I had to travel during rush hour
traffic.
Our rush hour traffic means you have to plan to leave for where you are going at
least half an hour earlier. What should have been a 12 min drive down the
highway took 30! Every time I left for this week span of babysitting I ran into
traffic.
While in traffic I made
the most of it. I don’t mind being by myself and I entertained myself by singing and thinking about what else I needed to
do that week.
Every day I felt like I
was going to be late! Moving only a few inches at a time was too much for
me at a certain point! I just knew I'd get there 20 mins late and my poor
friend would be late for work, but guess what? I was always on time! I was
even 10 mins early one day.
One day while I was
inching through traffic the Lord told me "I've got you."
No matter how slow I
think I'm inching forward I truly don't know how long it is meant to take me to get to my
destination - to where God wants me. While I am waiting for the promises
He has spoken to me I need to do what He wants me to do until I get there. I
want that end goal. I strive for it, but I get tired along the way
sometimes. Sometimes I wonder exactly what God is doing while I don't see much
happening, but then I get alone with God, pop out my Bible and get strength.
This verse especially sticks out:
“But those who wait for
the Lord [who expect,
look for, and hope in Him]
Will gain new strength and renew their power;
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun];
They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not grow tired.” Isaiah 40:31
Will gain new strength and renew their power;
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun];
They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not grow tired.” Isaiah 40:31
While you are sitting still in your "traffic jam" or "inching
forward" don't lose sight of the promise! Keep it before you and stay in
the Lord's presence and word as you run/walk. God's got you and He won't fail.
Don't fail God and walk away because it is taking too long.
He hasn't left you! He
is still talking to you and giving you direction.
Instead of brooding and
having a sour attitude I sang praises and had prayer time.
Despite getting lightly
rear ended one day I didn't let that dampen my mood. My car was ok, I was ok
and after a quick call to my dad I was breathing easy again.
Every time I saw my exit
sign I was so happy! I had finally made it and I was ready for my time with those lil guys!
Don't lose heart, keep
working where you are at, work towards your goal and let God be God! When
you feel like you are stuck/hardly moving remind yourself, “What traffic jam!”
