I think I was four. One Sunday morning at church I was standing on the porch. The porch didn't have a railing, just two metal "handrails". I liked to hang and swing from them and that was what I was doing, when a boy came over to me who was known to be rough. For no reason at all he pushed me off the side of the porch and I fell in the mud! It got all over the front of my dress and my hands. An older man saw what happened and asked me if I was okay. I said yes and went to go find my mom because I was embarrassed!
Well, when I got to her she was mad! She thought I had purposefully gotten muddy and she was upset my dress got messy. I tried to explain but it didn't help.
Then later that week my mom sat beside me on my grandma's bed and she had a plastic bag in her hand. She told me she found out what had really happened and said she was sorry for not believing me. She gave me the bag and it was a new dress for my baby doll. I couldn't believe it! It made me feel so happy!!!
To this day that dress brings a smile to my face! I was four and I can remember it all like it happened yesterday!
I'm sure you have memories that make you smile when you see an object. A specific piece of jewelry, a piece of ribbon or a book, but then there are also times when we see something and it brings back sad, painful or angry memories. What kind of memories are you leaving with people? Each day we have the opportunity to make someone smile, laugh and to make them feel good about themselves. We can forgive and make wrongs right. We can help someone up and show them there is hope. We can share our testimony, how God has changed our lives and set us free, letting the Holy Spirit draw someone to the Kingdom!
Give the gift of a beautiful memory today. Let the Lord use you to make someone's day unforgettable!
God has shown you his grace in many different ways. So be good servants and use whatever gift he has given you in a way that will best serve each other. 1 Peter 4:10
