Renovation!

Renovation.

What comes to mind when you hear this word? I typically think of all the different HGTV shows that have the teams who can take a house from bad to amazing! I also think of all the work that has to go into renovations. It's not always fun but the end result is worth it! What does this word mean anyway?

Renovate:
1. to restore to good condition; make new or as if new again; repair.
2. to reinvigorate; refresh; revive.

Working on a house, yard, car, or other project is pretty straight forward. You know what needs to get done and you plan accordingly to do it. Sometimes there are unexpected "surprises" that come up like when my brother and I were pulling up the faux wood flooring in the dining room. When we pulled it up we found linoleum flooring that will be harder to get up. Yes, it's more work than we were expecting to do, but we just gotta get it done! No matter how big your project seems you stay motivated by looking forward to the end result.

What about when it comes to our renovation? We are all born into this sinful world in need of salvation, and when we choose to receive salvation from our beautiful Lord that starts our renovation process. He does a work in us that we can never do ourselves!

"17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]." 2 Corinthians 5:17

When we first come to Christ changing and leaving our old ways isn't always easy is it? There are some friendships we may have to break off and there are places we stop going to. As you go deeper in your relationship with Christ you will find that it's easier to stay away from whatever holds you back and that you think with a heavenly mindset instead of a worldly one. If you are struggling in your renovation maybe it's because you aren't using your biggest tool, the Holy Spirit!

"26 But the [a]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you." John 14:26

You are not alone in this process! You have God the Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, your brothers and sisters in Christ, and your Instruction Manual the Bible. Here's a heads up for you; the renovation isn't complete until we get home to heaven. We are human and there will be times that we stumble and fall, but we can get up and keep going!

Don't be discouraged if you are in a stage of renovation that is tough right now. Keep seeking the Lord and He will show you how to get through it. Don't do what you think will be best, consult your Manual and move in the direction of the wisdom you get from there and see how the Lord guides you.

I am looking forward to my completed look and being home in heaven. I know when I get there and I look back on my life and all it took to get home I will be full of joy because my Savior kept me and I will spend eternity with Him!
