| We gotta take that first step! |
"But God, you know I have to wake up early for work tomorrow. I can't stay and talk with this mom I just finished babysitting for."
"But God, I'm not a people person. Surely you want "Joe" over there to help out at the community center. He's great with people!"
Dear one, trust me "but God I can't" has come out of my mouth more times than I'd like to admit, even after an awesome church service where I was fired up and I said, "Yes Lord, I will be Your hands and feet!" Then an opportunity came up for me to be just that, but it was out of my comfort zone for me to talk to that person or help out at that event so I backed away.
No matter the amount of time you know someone there are times where it can be hard to say those words that God is laying on your heart to give them. It may seem absolutely silly to buy that person a pair of navy blue slippers or to sit beside someone and hold their hand and sit in silence because God only told you to do an action. We must remember that even though we can't see what is going on in a person's heart, God does! We don't know who else God has brought across their path to sow, water or fertilize the seed God has planted in their heart before sending us. What we do know is that God is in control and has placed an assignment in our hands to carry out. We who are His children should say, "Yes Abba Father. Strengthen me as I go to do this task for You."
During his earthly ministry Jesus said: "I can assure you that whoever believes in me will do the same things I have done. And they will do even greater things than I have done, because I am going to the Father." John 14:12 If we are to be like Jesus we can be sure that when He calls us to do something that we can do it! If it is out of our comfort zone we do it knowing we are growing in Christ out of obedience to Him.
The next time God lays it on your heart to do something and it's hard, remember to take His hand and take the step. Sometimes you won't be able to see how much of an impact was made on a person; however, there are also those beautiful moments Abba Father shows you why He had you deliver that special message/action.
