After you have had time with God in prayer, church or listening to sermons on the radio/TV it is easier to:
Charge out and speak words of kindness to one who has hurt you.
To bite your tongue and just smile when something is said against you.
To switch your thoughts over to good thoughts after something comes up that frustrates you.
To help someone when your health is good and you aren't in any pain/discomfort.
Oh yes, my friend, after getting your dose of Jesus those task become easier. However, what about the times the difficult situation appears rubbing you the wrong way - where the feelings and words that want to bubble up out of you are not pleasing to God? It is at that moment we have to choose if we will call out to our Abba Father to help us or if we will go along with what our flesh says to do.
For the sinful nature has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the [h]sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always] do whatever [good things] you want to do. Galatians 5:17
Throughout the Bible it is filled with testimonies of people calling out to God and God's response is to reach down and help them. Our beautiful Father gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit. God Himself lives in us and is there to pick us up and strengthen us in the middle of our toughest situations!
26 But the [d]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.
John 14:26
But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the [g]sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. Galatians 5:16
When we hear the Holy Spirit's voice telling us what we should or should not do, we need to listen right then. If it is too hard we ask Him for help and He will surely help us! Don't forget that if you are a child of God you ARE His child and you can call on your Father 24/7.
No matter what comes up in life that makes us want to act/respond in our own way we need to remember to go to the One who made our heart and He will strengthen us!
In my distress [when I seemed surrounded] I called upon the Lord
And cried to my God for help;
He heard my voice from His temple,
And my cry for help came before Him, into His very ears. Psalm 18:6
