Did you know that we can add another definition of Sanctuary to the dictionary? We who are Christians are sanctuaries as well! We are Temples of God and it says so here in these beautiful verses:
16 [d]Do you not know and understand that you [the church] are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells [permanently] in you [collectively and individually]? 1 Corinthians 3:16
Isn't is awesome when you think about being a place where the Spirit of the Lord lives? When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, confess and repent of your sins, the Holy Spirit comes and lives in you helping you to live your walk with Christ.
16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said:
“I will dwell among them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 2 Corinthians 6:16
Amazing!
Being a sanctuary to the Holy Spirit is a huge responsibility isn't it? Praise the Lord we do not, should not, carry out this task on our own; we have the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. He gives us the words to say to the hurting and lost when we don't know what to say. He gives us the strength to keep going after that one person who keeps rejecting God. He gives us the sympathy and love to hold the one who is grieving. He gives us the words to quiet the anger of the one who is mad at the world. He brings to our mind the scripture/s that will help in the moment we are ministering to someone.
I pray that as we are reminded of this truth, that we aim to be holy Temples for the Lord. I pray that our actions match our words and vice versa. I pray that we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and move through us.
Child of God, you are a walking building that holds the gift of life for the world, so let your light shine!
Be blessed, beloveds!
