Beautifully Broken

3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[a] as he was reclining at table, a
woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. Mark 14:3

This verse has been stuck in my mind and stirring in my soul for two weeks. Ever since I heard my pastor use it in part of his sermon it has not left me and it has made me ask myself, "How am I breaking my life for God?"

This woman gave what was a year's worth of wages and gladly anointed her King. She broke what was costly and precious. When I look around me I find that there are plenty of ways I can break my life offering my time, possessions and talent for my Savior. Sometimes that means doing something I don't want to do or that I would rather do later. If I put off doing what He told me or do something else it would be like offering something that is "ok", but not my best.

Are you breaking your life for the King? Are you giving your all? As God has been getting my attention on giving my all I am focusing on living day to day and making the most out of each one! I am pouring the most into each person so I can pour my best offering before my Savior.

Dear one, I challenge you to love without limits and pour out your offering today. The Lord will show you/lead you how to do it and you will leave a beautiful smell for the world to take in. Let's pour out our offerings for His glory, amen!

3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[a] as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii[b] and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”
Mark 14:3-9

I appeal to you therefore, brothers,[a] by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1

  1. Love this! You are touching on a foundational truth of salvation. Jesus said that if we wanted to be His disciples, we need to die to ourselves. As an old lady, I can tell you, it's a lot harder than it seems. "The trouble with a living sacrifice is that it keeps crawling off the altar." Love you, girl! Keep preaching it.
